Time management tips
It is hard for me to look at a chore and think that it’s only going to take me a few minutes to complete. When I go into the kitchen and see a mess I don’t look at the specific tasks that I need to complete I look at the kitchen as a whole and get frustrated and overwhelmed which leads to me giving up before I even try. As a mother of 2 and a wife I need all the help I can get when it comes to time management tips.
A light bulb went off one day while I was warming up water for my tea. I turned on my electric tea kettle and decided to unload the dishwasher. Now know that it takes about 1:30-2:00 minutes to warm my water up so I didn’t have much time. However, as the tea kettle went off I had already finished unloading the dishwasher.
It got me thinking of what else I could do around the house in just a few minutes so the challenge was on and now I’m sharing these time management tips with you!
Each task:
- Takes just a few minutes to complete
- Has the biggest impact on saving time
- Will help you stay organized
- And possibly keep the house a little cleaner!
The tasks included here will take 20 minutes or less to complete. The works mentioned here will literally save your day. Here’s how you can use 20 minutes as productively as possible giving you some time management tips you can use.
Systemize Unread Mail
My first time management tip is all about that unopened mail. When you have a heap of unread mail lying around, use your time fruitfully to sort them out. You may feel burdened with the pile you have to go through. Don’t worry, because here’s how to do it productively.
You have to organize your mail into 4 segments – Bills, Important, Junk, and Other. The ‘Bills’ will have to be taken to the pay station. The ‘Important’ mail may contain magazines and cards you may want to read. The ‘Junk’ mail should go straight into the shredder. The mail in the ‘Other’ section may consist of things your spouse may want to look at – set them aside.
Coffee Table Cleansing
For this time management tip, you may only need a few minutes to finish. Your coffee table might have turned into a dumping ground for everything. The table may be disorganized with cups, toys, magazines, remotes and unclean fingerprints.
Twenty minutes or even less – is all you need for the coffee table cleansing. Busy moms like you must like to refurbish the coffee table. Give the table a disinfecting wipe with your multi-purpose cleaner and your micro-fiber cloth. Remove the objects which have piled up on the table.
Now you can put those things on the table which belong there. The living room will be cleaner this way.
Unload and reload the dishwasher
Your kitchen can be an overwhelming mess. It may seem like cleaning the kitchen can be never-ending. Your dishwasher is of the prime importance here.
You may find that your dishwasher is full of clean dishes whereas the sink is full of dirty dishes. Heat up water and unload the dishwasher. You will see that you have already unloaded the dishwasher before the water has turned suitably hot.
Make some tea for yourself with the hot water. Now reload the dishwasher. Go to the next level and clean the counters.
Go through the fridge
Cleaning out your fridge is something you might not do often. However, it has been in your mind. Do this once a week before going to the grocery store.
You may find that an item has gone bad inside the refrigerator when are glancing inside it while creating a grocery list. So find twenty minutes from your day and go through the food inside the fridge. Clean the fridge by removing the expired or rotten items.
Organize Your Laundry
After everything we have talked about above, laundry may actually seem like eternal work. In fact, this time management tip is the best method to clean the laundry is doing a load when required.
Pre-sorting laundry bins are essential while doing this. However, you need not worry if you do not have those. Organize your laundry and put the load in the washer. This way you will stay ahead in the laundry-cleaning run. With pre-sorting laundry bins, you can organize your laundry quite methodically. This will save you more time.
You can also fold and put away one load of your laundry. This is something you may have been refraining from performing as you feel it might take hours. However, you will be surprised to know that it doesn’t take more than a few minutes.
Other than all the work written above, you can also:
- go for planning the weekly menu
- performing some decluttering work
- cleaning the washroom counters
- and others.
All of these may seem somewhat overpowering. But it will just take twenty minutes to get a load off your shoulders. These time management tips will work for anyone in the home. Remember, choose from the work which you deem to be the most significant and prioritize accordingly.
