Now that spring has officially sprung, it is the ideal time for us to roll up our sleeves and take the time and effort to clear out our home. Over the winter when we have Christmas and other celebrations the house can end up becoming clogged to the brim with possessions we simply don’t need to have. So this weekend why not take the opportunity to cleanse and clean our the home and make it feel spacious and fresh once more?
Today we’ll be sharing some simple tips for clearing out the house to make it look and feel brand new once more.
Start with the loft
When you want to clean and clear out the whole house, it is always a great idea to start with either your loft or your basement first. The reason why you should start in this room is to make sure that you are able to clear out the majority of your waste from the get-go. There are a lot of things we end up storing in the loft and the basement and these usually consist of things such as Christmas decorations, old ornaments and furniture and those sentimental items we often keep ‘just in case’. Make sure you are pretty ruthless with this part of the clear out because making space in the loft can allow you to do more later on in other rooms.
Clear out less used rooms
As you try to clear out your home you will notice that it will take a lot of time out of your day and it will rarely only take a day or two for you to do properly. To clear out the house in the most effective way that you can, it is important for you to start with the rooms which are least used in the home first. The reason for this is that you don’t want to disrupt your day to day living too much and clearing these rooms first can make things much easier for you in the long term and then once you are ready and you can dedicate more time to everything, you will be able to get the job done in no time!
Check the pantry
Part of the house we sometimes forget about when we are clearing the home is the pantry, and over time we can end up accumulating a lot of different foods which we don’t end up eating. Now and again it is good to look at cans and jars to check if they are still in date, and while you are clearing out the rest of the home it is the ideal time to do this.
Clear out your closet
How many items of clothing do you have in your closet right now that you actually wear? Over time most of us end up buying items of clothing which we want to wear and a lot of the time they are forgotten about. If you have a lot of clothes which you don’t wear there’s no point in letting them clog up space in your wardrobe anymore. Take the opportunity to clear out your closet and make sure that you are as ruthless as you can be! Don’t keep items which you are saving for when you lose a little weight because they will simply end up gathering dust in the closet!
Say goodbye to old furniture
If you take a look at your main living areas, have you got some big pieces of furniture which are taking up too much space? When we first move into a house we often end up being gifted with secondhand furniture and then as we buy our own pieces we often keep the old ones too. Now is the time to make some space in your home and get rid of these pieces of furniture to create more space in your home. You can use a skip bin hire to get rid of these items as well as all of the other things you want to clear out of the home.
Does it make you happy?
If an item doesn’t have a use, does it make you happy? If not, don’t keep it! It is important for you to never keep items in the house for the sake of it. Make sure that every item in the home has a real use and that it will bring joy to the home. This is an idea you can especially bring to the shelves in the home if you have lots of small ornaments in the space which are creating clutter and clearing away some of these can be a great thing for the whole house.
Cables are ugly, and when you have expended a lot of effort to clear out the house the last thing you want to end up with is a mess of cables in your living room. Take a little time to hide your cables with cable organizers and even think of a clever way to hide them such as to grab a decorative box, cut out the back for the cables to run through, and place this on your TV stand.
Less is more
The fewer items you have in a room, the more stylish it will look. If you are looking to clear the space to make some positive changes to your interior this spring, you should consider keeping things minimal. Minimalist design can make even the smallest living space feel and look larger than it really is and this can make all the difference to you when you want to create a fresh looking home.
Weed the garden
Remember that the garden is as much a part of the house as any of your rooms, and as a result, it is a good idea for you to weed the garden and clear some space for flowers to spread and grow. Clearing a flower bed can be super satisfying for you to do and it will make all the difference to your outdoor space.
