Is sugar scrub good for your face?
DIY sugar scrub is great for your face however, you’ll want to be gentle when scrubbing so you don’t end up with scratches on your face or feel any burning when wet down your face. I do find doing a nice scrub once a week is plenty. This really helps remove old skin cells and adds some oils back in. Coconut oil scrub for my face is what I usually use.

Organic ingredients are best. Try to use only organic sugar in sugar scrubs because of the pesticides that might go into the skin. It’s a little bit more expensive but then you don’t have to worry about what may or may not be going into your skin.
How long can you keep a homemade sugar scrub?
I’ve never had any of my sugar scrubs go bad but as a good rule, homemade sugar scrub shelf life is about 6 months. My scrubs don’t last that long because I use them every week.
What essential oils are good for body scrubs?
I only use food-grade essential oils for anything I do. Since I use essential oils for my skin, cleaning products, and other things that come in contact with skin and food I just play it safe and only use food-grade oils.

How to use sugar scrub?
DIY Sugar scrub is so simple to use. About once a week I add some scrub to my hands and rub over my hands, face, and body then I take a shower to rinse off the sugar scrub.
When I use the sugar scrub for my lips, I add a small amount to one of my fingers and rub on my lips, rinse, and add some of my favorite chapstick.
The sugar granules help remove dead skin cells leaving you with a glow from head to toe. If you have sensitive skin you can use this. You’ll also smell amazing all day because of the essential oils.

Lavender Sugar Scrub
I love lavender, it’s one of my favorite scents out there. We have 2 giant plants out front and I love harvesting it each year to add to this recipe and I add it to my homemade soaps and cleaning products. Here’s how you make the lavender sugar scrub:
Mix together:
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 tbsp lavender
- 25 drops lavender essential oil

Brown Sugar Vanilla Scrub
I absolutely love this one. It reminds me of cookies. So when I scrub with this one I want to make sugar cookies all day long. Here’s how you make the brown sugar vanilla scrub:
Mix together:
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract

Pumpkin Spice Scrub
This DIY sugar scrub is the ultimate fall scent! If you’re anything like me then you obsess over pumpkin spice anything from September until December (who am I kidding, this obsession lasts all year!). This really does smell like you’re sipping on a pumpkin spiced latte or have lit a fall candle.

- ½ cup coconut oil
- 10 drops orange essential oil
- 10 drops cinnamon essential oil
- 5 drops ginger essential oil
- 5 drops clove essential oil
