The point of an evening routine is to allow you and your family to get a few things done before bed. However, it’s also important to balance your nighttime routine with a little downtime so you and your family can fall asleep with ease.
Here are some other great ways to get organized:
Nighttime Routine
I feel it’s important for kids and adults to have an evening routine. It’s a great habit to start at a young age because more and more research is done about how important quality sleep is.
What to include in your evening routine?
I like to include a few productive tasks and then I like to finish it off with some winding down tasks so I’m relaxed enough to sleep. I make sure the same is true for my family.
You’ll want to add a few chores or cleaning tasks like dishes, laundry, and gathering homework or important paperwork for the next day.
Here are a few examples:
- Dishes load and run the dishwasher
- Wipe down counters
- Pick up after yourself (this goes for everyone in the home, kids included)
- Pick out clothes for the next day
- Pack up the backpack for school and gather important paperwork
Once that is done, now it’s time for winding down. Things to include would be:
- Taking a bath or shower
- Reading or journaling
- Electronics with blue light glasses
- Playing a board game or putting a puzzle together
Your evening routine doesn’t need to have a lot of items added. Having a little bit of cooperative clean up and preparation for the next day will make your morning so much easier.
Evening routine checklist
Having a good amount of winding downtime will allow your body to produce natural sleepy hormones. You and your family can get some quality sleep.
