How to make a happy home
If you’re struggling to make a happy home there are a few things you can do to make a calm and happy place to call home. Follow these simple tips:
Having a lot of clutter around you can make your home feel tense and chaotic. By removing clutter and freeing up space you won’t constantly feel like the walls are closing up in on you.
Take baby steps and do a little bit of decluttering each day. You’ll make progress each day and before you know it you’ll get through your clutter.
Display happy memories
Remember the happy times by displaying happy memories. Having pictures of family vacations on the wall or displaying kids’ artwork on the walls will allow you to reflect on the happy times.
Our main hallway have some of my favorite photos from past family vacations and of the kids growing up. In our living room and family room I also display some of our family’s’ most memorable events.
Create a happy home retreat
Be sure there’s at least one room in your home you can feel you can retreat to after a long day. It should be free of technology for the most part, as technology tends to just stress us out more. You don’t want to be tempted to scroll through Facebook or check your emails when you’re supposed to be relaxing.
Incorporating books is a good idea instead, as they can help us feel like we’re further away from our problems for a little while and give us something productive to do. Make this room a bit like your very own haven. Include lots of texture, your favorite colors, throws, cushions, natural light and cool accessories – make it somewhere you really love to be.
Enjoy happy home downtime
If you’re constantly moving from one thing to the next and not allowing yourself to take a breath and enjoy a little downtime it will be hard to find happiness.
Stay on budget
One of the leading causes of arguments is money. Having a budget and knowing where your money is going will reduce a lot of stress allowing you to make a happy home. Starting a budget can be overwhelming. I walk you through how to set one up and there’s a free planner you can download. Check it out here.
Knowing what’s important and having priorities in your life will lead to a happier home. You’ll want to spend your time on things that not only make you happy but what you know is important.
Having a clean home does make a happy home. If your home is clean you won’t be making a mental tally of all of the chores that need to be completed. Create a cleaning routine that will help you relax and enjoy your happy home.
When you procrastinate you live in, what I like to call, “have to land”. This means that you’re feeling like you are always needing to do something because you’re behind. Let go of perfection
I’m speaking from experience here! Most of my life I was crippled by this. Constantly redoing projects, practicing more, trying to be the best and making sure everything I do is perfect.
You are your own worst critic. Letting go of perfection and rewarding yourself for completing something will reduce stress. Reducing stress will in turn make you happier.
