How to Organize Small Items Around the House
If you don’t already have one, get yourself a magnetic paperclip holder and put all your bobby pins in there. You won’t lose them; you’ll know where they all are, and it’s a quick and cheap way to stop all those strays disappearing.
Another clever option is adding a strip of magnetic tape to the inside of your drawer this will catch all of the bobby pins without them getting lost under drawer organizers.
Now, these can be looped around a carabiner; if you haven’t got one knocking around already, again, they’re easy to pick up and really cheap. You can also use empty plastic containers to organize hair ties.
Keep your jewelry together in an ice cube tray with a lid, they can fit nicely in your drawer, and if your pair your earrings up, keep them together in one section each then again you’ll always know where to find them.
If you’re short on space having a hanging jewelry organizer hanging in your closet will keep your jewelry organized and out of the way.
When you’re traveling, pop the jewelry you plan to take with you in a daily pillbox. If you have any real silver and not just costume jewelry, then make sure you use silver storage bags to protect it.
A great way to organize your nail polishes is in a shoe organizer – if you have a spare, if not then go out and get one. You could arrange them by color or brand or just in order of your favorites. They’ll be easy to see, out of the way and all together in one place.
Makeup brush organizers can be quite expensive. There are a few easy DIY and no-cost options when organizing your makeup brushes. You can use the following:
- Old candle jar – just remove the wax from the jar and add your makeup brushes
- Mason jar – is there anything a mason jar isn’t good for? Is is a very easy and rustic way to organize your brushes.
- Cup and sand – You can use a cup from the kitchen and a little bit of sand to keep your brushes upright.
Here are some inexpensive makeup brush organizers (all under $10) I found on Amazon:
Use shower curtain rings on a pole to store your scarves. This way you can hang them all nicely, they won’t get creased, and you can see what you have.
You can also wrap them around a hanger, use a curtain rod, or even take a small piece of wood and hot glue clothes pins to it and you’ve got yourself a DIY scarf organizer.
Do you have a load of lotions and potions lying around? The first thing to do is declutter, get rid of the ones you don’t use, and then categorize the rest. Divide them into piles, makeup, shower gels, moisturizers, etc. Then get yourself down to a craft shop, or hop on Amazon, where you can buy trays with dividers in which can fit into your drawers.
I don’t have a huge collection of cosmetics so I have a makeup bag I use that is nicely organized by using dividers so everything stays where it belongs.
Small things on your desk
I don’t know about you but I don’t have much room on my desk to store things. But, there are so many little things that accumulate on anyone’s desk so here are a few ways to organize pens, post-its, headphones, and other items that might be getting in the way.
Here are a list of products I use to organize the small things on my desk, maybe this will help you!
First off I use a monitor stand. I have a two monitor set up. This allows me to use the space underneath to organize some of my must haves for my desk.
I use clear plastic drawer organizers to store USB drives, chapstick, cords, and headphones.
I then splurged a little and picked up a cute pen holder and a note pad holder to liven up my desk a bit.
Organizing can be a very therapeutic thing for you to do, so take one afternoon, put some of your favorite music on, and get started. It can be enjoyable too; it doesn’t have to take long either because once you get started and into the flow.
You’ll be finding new space for things and ways of organizing. You’ll likely think of new ideas of what you can put in vases, boxes, or tins, so give it a go and see what you can achieve in one afternoon.
