Organize under the kitchen sink step 1:
First things first. Remove everything from under the kitchen sink. Chances are you’ll find a lot of cleaning products you purchased that didn’t work well. Get rid of those. If you aren’t using them, there’s no point in keeping them. You also want to get rid of anything you don’t use. It doesn’t need to be under there taking up space.
Once under the kitchen sink is empty, give it a good cleaning. Grab a damp rag with soapy water or all-purpose cleaner and wipe down all the surfaces.
How to organize under the kitchen sink step 2: Determine your needs
One important thing about organizing is knowing what you need. When organizing under your kitchen sink you’ll want to determine what you need and what you don’t. Sink cabinets come in all shapes and sizes and there can be a lot of junk hiding under there!
Things to ask yourself are:
- Exactly what should you store under your sink?
- What is constantly something hard to find?
- What are the dimensions of your cabinet?
Once you determine your needs it’s time to move on step 3!

Tips for organizing under the kitchen sink
Here are some tips to help you make the most of the space under the kitchen sink.
Store Items in Clear Containers
Another great tip is to store items in clear containers. This includes dishwasher tabs, towels, and dishrags. When you can easily see what’s inside the bin, you’ll be able to find what you need easily. Containers also help give the area a more organized feel.
Don’t let the back of cabinet doors go to waste. These are the perfect place to add a couple of hooks for hanging a dish towel or gloves. You can also find trays that go inside the faux drawers under your sink for sponges. You can also hang an organizer inside the doors to hold some other items.
Install a Light
Last, but not least, install a light under your sink. No, you don’t need to bring in an electrician. You can find many battery-operated lights that are perfect for this purpose. When you can actually see what’s under your sink, you’re more likely to keep it organized. You’ll also be better able to see what’s under there and find what you need.
What should be stored under the kitchen sink?
Items to be stored under your kitchen sink will vary on the age of your family. When my kids were younger I didn’t store my cleaning supplies under the sink but as they got older and I knew it was safe I started storing my kitchen cleaning supplies under the sink.
Items to store:
- Dishwasher tabs
- All-purpose cleaner
- Garbage bags
- Yard waste bags
- Sink cleaner
- Dust pan
- Extra sponges, scrubbies, etc.
What should you not store under a kitchen sink?
Again the will vary depending on how old your family is. I do not store big containers of cleaning supplies because there isn’t a lot of room.
Avoid storing large bottles of cleaning supplies like bleach, carpet cleaner, and other large items. Those can be stored in a laundry room or garage to avoid contamination.
How do I organize my cleaning supplies under my sink?
Organize your cleaning supplies by using baskets, hanging the spray cleaner on a rod. Use mason jars to store dishwasher tabs. Utilizing containers will help you keep your cleaning supplies organized.
The area under your kitchen sink doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Take the time to purge the items you don’t need and give the area a good cleaning. You can then use an under the kitchen sink organizer to organize things so that it works for your needs.
