I just reorganized and redid my closet. We live in a home with small closets so storage space is hard to come by. The closet organizer I install had drawers and shelves so I decided to try the Konmari method of folding.
I’m going to show you how I was able to save space and change the way I fold clothes in our home now. It’s quite simple and makes a lot of sense. I just wish I did this sooner!

So this little konmari method of folding project started in our closet but I quickly moved it to our entire home. Yes, I drove my family a little bonkers showing them the new way of folding. They’re on board and loving it too.
Konmari method of folding
The konmari method of folding is so simple. The method is basically the same for everything you fold. Let’s get to it so you can start folding your clothes this way.
Konmari Folding Method for Shirts & Tank Tops
The method is the same for all shirts and tank tops. Start off by laying the shirt on a table. Fold one side a quarter of the way in, then do the same for the other side. Next, you’ll fold both sides in half. Fold that in half and then in thirds. See the images below for the steps. When you’re done your shirt should stand up.
Lay the shirt on a flat surface
Fold one side in a quarter of the way
Fold the other side in a quarter of the way
Fold in into fourths
Then fold in half
Fold into thirds
Pants, sweats, yoga/running pants
The konmari method of folding is basically the same for pants. Start off by folding the pants in half. Fold the corner in making a straight line. Take the bottoms of the pants to the top, folding in half, then fold into thirds. See the images below for the steps. When you’re done your pants should stand up.
Fold pants in half so the waist is meeting at one end and the legs are meeting at the other.
Fold the middle area in so it’s a straight line.
Bring the legs to the waist to fold in half.
Fold into thirds.
You will fold all pants that way. If fold towels the same ways as pants.
By using the konmari method of folding your clothes you’ll save space. This is perfect for anyone short on space like we are.
