In our family having a nighttime routine is something we’ve been practicing forever. My oldest had the toughest time sleeping. Once I was able to implement a nighttime routine for her she was able to fall asleep quicker.

Night Time Routine
Nighttime routines don’t have to have a lot to them. The idea is getting the children into a habit that tells their bodies that it’s almost bedtime.
Our family night time routine is fairly basic. We all have our chores we do before getting ready for bed. Some of those chores are:
- Picking up after ourselves (clothes, shoes, toys, etc.)
- Loading the dishwasher
- Getting items ready for the next day (paperwork, clothes, etc.)
After that is finished then it’s time for showers/baths, brushing teeth, story time, and then off to bed.
When to start a night time routine?
We started nighttime routines with our kids almost immediately. With our oldest, this is something we started later on because we didn’t know about them.
The night time routine starts about 45-1 hr before bed. Since my youngest likes to shower at night she needs more time to get ready. We like to have enough time in there so toys and clothes are picked up, everyone get’s cleaned up, and have enough time to read.
Having a checklist was really helpful for our family. If you’re struggling getting your kids to go through a night time routine this might be helpful too.
Since every family is different I created one with a few main points, cleaning up, brushing teeth, etc. but left some blank that you can fill in. I also made one in blue and one in pink so your child can choose.
