The question of the day is, how to organize your fridge so everyone can find the food? If you’re a mom then you know that you’re the only one that can find the missing sock or the leftovers in the fridge. It seems impossible to organize the fridge so everyone can find the food.
Every time you go to the store or someone puts something into the fridge it seems like an unorganized mess. In this post, I’m going to share how to organize your fridge. There are simple things you can do that I have listed below.
I try my hardest to keep the fridge organized but it just wasn’t staying that way. No one could find what they were looking for and it seemed that our fridge was busting at the seems.
I open up my fridge to make my Costco shopping list and I’m overwhelmed with the mess. My fridge is exploding with food but we need food (why is that always the case??)…
It’s driving me nuts. Instead of going out and buying another fridge, I thought it was time to organize the fridge.
How to organize your fridge
There are a few things to keep in mind when organizing your fridge.
- How should you arrange your food?
- Which shelves should food go on?
- How will you keep your fridge organized?
- What should I place in the door?
How often should you clean out your fridge?
I clean out the fridge the day before I go shopping. For our family that’s once a week. Then once a month I do a deep clean. During the deep clean I pull out the shelves and wash them. I pull out all of the drawers and containers and wash them. This helps keep up with questionable containers in the fridge.
When you have multiple people taking things in and out of the fridge it is impossible to stay on top of it.
How should I arrange my fridge?
I like to set up zone inside the fridge. This way things will “stay where they belong”. If you have a snack area, lunch area, and veggies area it will be easier for people to see where things are and where they go.
Which shelves should food go on?
This really does depend on you. But there are a few things to put into consideration when finding places.
- Keep raw meet towards the bottom and away from fresh fruits and veggies so there’s no cross-contamination.
- Keep milk and other dairy items out of the door. This is the warmest spot in the fridge and you don’t want those to go bad.
- Crisper drawers will keep your fruits and veggies lasting longer.
What should I place in the door?
Like I said earlier, the door is the warmest spot in the fridge so it’s good to keep condiments like ketchup, mustard, and pickles in the door so you don’t run the risk of food spoiling.
How to organize your fridge?
I like to use clear plastic containers to organize my fridge. Using a label maker will also help keep your fridge organized. You can label different areas of the fridge so everyone knows where the items go.
I said this earlier, setting up zones is a perfect way to keep your fridge organized. I like to have bread in one area, snacking fruits in another, salad fixing in another, and on and on.
It really does depend on your family’s needs when it comes to where you place the food and what zones you create.
Below are the same items I used to organize my fridge.

Organize your fridge and keep it that way
By following the steps I laid out you will be able to organize your fridge in a way that everyone will be able to find the food. By setting up zones, labeling the fridge containers, and cleaning out the food weekly you’ll be able to have an organized fridge. I hope that these tips have helped you come up with an idea of cleaning out your fridge and organizing it so everyone can find what they’re looking for.
Thank you so much for stopping by. Have an amazing day.
