If you are in need of ways to save time in the kitchen then it's time to look at your crockpot for help. In this post, I'm going to share how you can save time in the kitchen with your crockpot.
It's important to me and most moms to provide healthy, home-cooked meals for their family. I typically don't share recipes on my blog because our family is quite different than most with all of our eating limitations it can be hard to find recipes that everyday people will eat.
However, with winter in full swing, it's a great time to pull out the crockpot and save some time in the kitchen. During the winter months in our area, the temperature doesn't usually get above 45 degrees so having a nice warm hearty meal is exactly what my family enjoys this time of the year.
The crockpot is really a set it and forget it type of cooking. It's cooking that I have to say is my favorite. In the morning when I'm making breakfast for everyone, I'll pull down the crockpot, chop some veggies, add the meat or bean/legumes I'll be using, and add the herbs and spices.
Then I turn on the crockpot, set it for the desired amount of time and I've got dinner cooking at 7 am.
It couldn't be easier.
Now the problem that you might be facing is, what are you going to cook. Below I'm going to be sharing some of my family favorites with you! These are meals that I make all of the time and the great thing is, there's enough for leftovers so I'm cooking two dinners in one!
For the vegetarian options our go-to crockpot meals are:
- Split pea soup
- Lentil soup
- Many bean soup
- Red beans and rice
- Potato corn chowder
- Minestrone soup
For the chicken options our go-to crockpot meals are:
- Chicken noodle soup
- Chicken cacciatore
- Chicken enchiladas
- Whole chicken and veggies
- Chicken and wild rice soup
- Chicken stew
So if you are looking for a way to save time and to provide a hearty home-cooked meal for your family it's time to pull out the crockpot.

Well if you're ready, let's begin with my tips!
1 - Set up a morning routine
Making the most out of your mornings will save loads of time. Start your morning off by doing a few chores like starting a load of laundry, unloading the dishwasher, or even checking email.
When you get a good productive start to your day you're able to keep the momentum going through the entire day.

2 - Set up an evening routine
Just like a morning routine and evening routine can save you tons of time. When I created an evening routine my main goal was to get myself moving a little bit and being less of a couch potato.
What I didn't know was I was able to triple the number of things I did each evening just by creating a plan, sticking to it, and following through.

3 - Create a monthly plan
By planning out your entire month gives you an idea of what needs to be done when. If you're new to planning or this is something that you've been wanting to do my advice to you is just start.
Grab a monthly calendar and start jotting down sports practices, days off of school, doctor appointments, and other commitments you might have for the month.

4 - Create your weekly intentions list
I like to set up a week of intentions list. These are things that I want complete this week but I might not be sure exactly when I can do them.
On a blank piece of paper start making a list of things that you'd like to complete or do. Things like:
- grocery shop
- clean out the fridge
- organize the linen closet
Those are just a few examples of things you might add. This is your list and the sky's the limit!
6 - Create a weekly planning day
Now, this is different than your weekly intentions list. Your weekly planning day is a day when set aside about 20 minutes of time to plan out your entire week. This is when you take your weekly intentions list and your monthly schedule and create a plan.
This is giving you a schedule to follow allowing you to stay organized which ultimately saves you time.
5 - Create a daily to-do list
Your daily to-do list is going to be your step by step organized plan. On my to-do list, I like to have a schedule, plus a list of "tasks" that I need to complete.
Instead of having an overwhelming list of things that need to be done, I like to break tasks up into priority. I have my have to do, should do, and would be nice if it gets done.
This allows me to focus on the most important thing instead of going for the things that really don't need to be done.
This really helped me with cleaning. There are some chores that I could just go without doing but you know, tubs don't clean themselves... So I created a system that forced me to do what needed to be done.

7 - Meal plan each week/month
Want to save time? Then you need to meal plan. Instead of going to the fridge about 10 minutes after you're hungry. Create a meal plan.
This will not only save you time but it will save you money and you're in complete control of what your family is putting in their bodies.
Just think about how much time it takes to get everyone ready to go and buckled up. Then you need to drive to the restaurant, wait to be seated, wait to order, wait for the food...
You see where I'm going with this.
In the time it took you to get the family ready, in the car and driving to where you've chosen you could have already had a meal completely prepared for your family to enjoy.

8 - Meal prep each week
If you find you and your family really short on time in the evenings, prepping your meals might be something you might consider.
Chopping up veggies, marinating meat, and so on can save you tons of time when it matters most.
What you'll want to do is create a weekly or monthly meal plan then do your shopping. When it's time to prep do almost everything except the cooking and you're set!
9 - Set up a family cleaning day
My thinking is everyone helps make the mess so everyone should help clean the mess. By setting up a family cleaning day you can set aside an hour or two when everyone is cleaning.

10 - Do a 20-minute quick pick up of the house
Every day I do a quick pick up of the house. This helps me "keep up" with the mess.
I focus on the common areas of the house. Mostly I'm putting away daily clutter, putting blankets back where they belong, wipe up fingerprints, and vacuum up pine needles (I live in the Pacific Northwest where pine needles love to breed!).

11 - Grouping like tasks together (batch)
When you are doing your daily tasks, one thing I've found that saves time is grouping like tasks together so you're not zig-zagging throughout the house.
This helps with productivity big time.
Try to group your chores together so you're doing common chores together.
12 - Create an errand day
Running errands is such a time sucker! I try to run all of my errands on one day so I'm able to get more done.
Instead of going to the store 3-5 times a week, I go once. If there are doctor, dentist, or orthodontic appointments I try to schedule them on my "errand day".
It's the day I do the shopping, here and there errands, and appointments. Yes, I'm gone most of the day but I've planned for that.
13- Simplify what needs to be done
We are our own slave drivers! We are the ones that add more than we should to our schedules, to-do lists, etc.
This year I'm going for a simpler life.
Buying less, needing less, and enjoying the simpler things in life like taking walks, going for runs, gardening, and quality time with the family.
I find that my days are filled with stress that I put on myself and that's why I'm trying to simplify what needs to be done.
