Why On Earth Should You Care About Filtering Your Household Water?

Many people are fully aware that drinking plenty of water is essential for health and well being, and for this reason, they buy bottled water and chug it like it’s going out of fashion. 2-3 liters per day is often the recommended amount. However, little thought is given to the water used to wash dishes, bathe in, shower in, and give to pets.

The fact is, even breathing in the bad stuff in tap water while we’re having a shower can be very harmful. Just some of the things found in tap water include chlorine, fluorine compounds, Trihalomethanes (THMs), assorted hormones, pesticides and even trace amounts of prescription drugs. Imagine breathing all of those things in when you’re supposed to be carrying out an enjoyable morning routine and getting on with your day.

If you’re still using plain old tap water for everything, it could be time to make a change.

Still not convinced? Read on to find out why you should be…

Bottled Water Isn’t As Innocent As It Seems

First off: let’s start by talking about bottled water. You may think you’re doing your health a favor by buying bottled water over using tap water, but studies suggest something different. In fact, many studies suggest that bottled water may not actually be much better than tap water. It can still contain nasty stuff, and it isn’t regulated, so you can never be 100% certain about what you are drinking. It might taste a little better, but investing in a decent filter will be so much better for your health.

Not only will it be better for your health; it’s better for the environment too. It takes gallons more water and oil to bottle the water and create the plastic, not to mention the issues that plastic is causing all over the world, particularly in the ocean.

It would be better for everybody if household water filtration systems were used worldwide.

Tap Water Is So Much Dirtier Than it Looks

Now, let’s talk about why you should be concerned about using tap water to wash your body and do the other things you do every day. First of all, it has traveled miles to get to you, picking up plenty of contaminants along the way. It has also been disinfected with carcinogens. Disinfecting the water is a necessary evil. It’s still bad for our health. This means that tap water is a chemical brew, no matter whereabouts you are in the world. You can’t get away from the fact that it’s dangerous to drink, shower, and bathe in.

How dangerous? Well, we can’t be certain of the long-term effects - but isn’t that a lot scarier? Studies found that 85% of households were using tap water with more than 300 contaminants in the US. Not only do these contaminants sink into your skin when your pores are open; you breathe them in.

The Solution

The only solution to this issue is to invest in a high-quality whole house water filter to make sure you can drink, bathe, and do other things with your water in peace. If you don’t have a huge budget yet, you can look at investing in individual drinking water and shower filter units. Just bear in mind that a whole house system will stand the test of time, and you’ll barely have to worry about things like maintenance and replacements once it’s in place.

Of course, in the meantime, there are things you can do. Try shortening your showers, turning down the temperature so your pores aren't soaking up the contaminants. Don’t take baths, as you’ll be bathing in chemicals. Do your best to invest in these filters, even if you have to do it separately, and one at a time. Concentrate on a drinking water system first, as you can find these at very affordable prices all over the place. Don’t wait!

Conclusion:

Your morning and daily routine should not include daily exposure to chlorine, carcinogens and vaporized chemical contaminants. However, without a great system in place, this is exactly what is happening.

If you live with your children, pets, and other loved ones, this becomes even more frightening. Investing in a filtration system will give you peace of mind and ensure long-term health. Don’t trust bottled water, either; save money in the long term, save the planet, and save yourself.
