Winter is in full swing, but it doesn’t mean that you are off the hook when it comes to your garden and lawn. Though there may be the need of snow shovels, there are other things that you can get on with doing in winter so that by the time spring arrives, you’ll be good to go and seeing everything in full bloom. The winter weather can leave the grass on your lawn, shrubs, and trees weak and a little worse for wear, especially if the temperatures have dropped and are covered in snow and ice. So here are some of the tips that can help your garden and your lawn to grow back lush and green when it is springtime.
Do some cleaning
One of the first things that you would need to do to prepare your lawn now so that it is ready in spring, is to rake your lawn and the leaves, twigs, and any other debris that is gathered over winter. If you have a large space to take care of, then it could be a good idea to look at getting a leaf blower, as a large space could take a while with only a rake to use. If there are things covering the lawn then it can keep shade out and prevent things like fertilizers from taking root which is really needed in winter.
Trim the trees
It can be hard to tell if there is a tree with dead branches unless you are able to climb up into it. But if you have a tree with some dead branches that are left, then it can damage the tree, as well as damage anything that it falls on, leading to potential property damage or injury to someone. So it is a good idea to think about getting a tree trimmer to come and check the trees in winter and prune what needs to be done. It can be easy for them to check on the condition of the tree, especially if the leaves have fallen.
Plan Ahead
When the weather starts to warm up, it can almost be a little wasted to then spend the time doing the garden and yard up. You want to be out there enjoying it all instead! So now could be the time to think about what you want it to look like in spring. You could get in touch with a company like LoneStar landscape design to start designing the layout of the yard so that you have it ready for spring. Now is also the time to think about what you want to plant or have grown in the spring and summer. Some of them you could even start planting now.
Mow early, mow often
One mistake that we can make with our yard is that we will only mow the lawn when we see that it needs it. But if you let the grass grow quite long, which you then cut, then it can stop the growth of the grass. So instead, look to mow the lawn every few days, especially for the first weeks of spring. Then you’re much more likely to have a think and full lawn when the sun starts to shine.
