Are you distracted?
Let me know if this sounds familiar?
Notifications are blowing up your phone, kids need your undivided attention, texts are coming in, and all you want to do is a quick clean up of your house.
Now, the phone blowing up and the kids needing your undivided attention are just a few distractions that, as busy moms, we face. Things being misplaced, noticing that something else needs attention, these are all things that come up when we are trying to clean.
How to clean a house fast
Have you ever started scrubbing a toilet and then find yourself in the kid’s room organizing their sock drawer?
If so, you are not alone. This used to be an almost daily occurrence for me…
So how do you overcome the distractions and really how to clean a house fast? It’s not like you can take these distractions away like you can take a toy away from a child.
But you can put systems in place that will help you make sure that you aren’t following every shiny object that you see.
That’s exactly what I’m going to help you with, and it brings me to my first tip.
Clean house checklist
#Tip 1: Prepare a checklist as among a number of chores to be done, you can get yourself confused and messed up.
This can prove to be the most important thing. It should include the name of the rooms or things you need to get cleaned. It can also include a list of things to be washed other than the clothes. For example, curtains, bedsheets, etc.
#Tip 2: Prepare a cleaning bucket which you carry in each room with yourself while cleaning.
Once you start cleaning, you don’t want to run to all the rooms for looking for a broom, mop, brush, soap etc. Therefore, having and carrying your own personalized cleaning-bucket will help in saving your time.
You can use it daily and put all the things back together in the bucket. So, the other day when you start cleaning, you won’t have to look for your cleaning tools everywhere.
Keep an empty basket
# Tip 3: Along with the cleaning bucket keep an empty basket too.
You are familiar with the situation when while cleaning one room you find something that needs to be put in another room. That will keep on happening. So, it’s better to collect it in a basket and place them in their right place when you are in that room.
Set up a route
#Tip 4: Plan a cleaning route for your house.
Once you start the cleaning, you don’t want to stop in between and wonder which room you should clean next. Hence, the smart way will be to choose one end of your house to start and another end to finish the cleaning.
However, this can differ with everyone depending on the type of house. You can put the rooms, floors, garage, and garden in a sequence to be cleaned. Assign priorities to the areas to be cleaned first. For example, if a particular room is not going to be used for a while, shift it to the end of your priority list and vice versa.
Find a quiet time of day
#Tip 5: Choose a time for cleaning when there is the least disturbance.
If you have kids, the best time for cleaning would be the school timings of your kids. On holidays, you can finish cleaning before they wake up. Not only kids, but even adults can be irritating while cleaning who keeps on roaming here and there while you clean. So, choose a time when there is the least or zero disturbance.
Cleaning your house when guests or company is arriving
At such a time, what you really lack is time. Hence, keep your checklist, cleaning route and cleaning bucket handy. Plan your checklist and cleaning route according to the rooms your guests are going to use. There is no point in cleaning those areas first where your guests won’t visit. You can clean these after you are done with the priority areas.
Doesn’t matter how badly you want to clean everywhere and show off your home-making skills, you need to be practical. Thus, prioritizing the areas to be cleaned can help you in case you don’t finish your cleaning on time or your guests arrive sooner. This way, at least the areas of priority will be cleaned, where your guests are going to visit.
When your house is filled with people
It can take longer to clean the house when there is so much distraction because of the people around. So, choose a time when they are sleeping or when everyone is in the same room so that you can clean the other rooms. If nothing of the two is happening then you need to take charge and move everyone into the same room.
Following this will definitely minimize the amount of your cleaning time as you won’t be distracted. A complete focus on cleaning will eventually help to clean the house fast.
How to do clean a house fast daily
To fasten your daily cleaning there is one simple rule which is “Assign different tasks to different days”. For example, other than dusting, vacuuming or mopping which are daily chores, wash clothes on alternate days. This way you can manage your cleaning time easily.
Since we are talking about how to clean a house fast, it’s important to keep it simple. Spot cleaning common areas, picking up items that don’t belong and refreshing the house so it feels like something was accomplished.
