5 Steps to Success at Home
While this is focused on the new year ahead, you can apply these steps to success at home to any time of year. Every day is a chance to refocus and shift your routine. Being in control of the journey you take doesn’t mean you have to wait for a specific day or time. Start right now to refocus and make your life and home easier to manage.
Set realistic goals for your life
It is well known that we as women are hard on ourselves. Setting goals that just aren’t manageable are something we often do in our lives. Instead, this time, get honest with yourself. Sit down and write down the big picture for your goals. Are you trying to keep on top of chores daily? Is your goal to renovate your home? Perhaps you have a goal of paying off debt this year? All of these are different and need different steps. You can have steps to success in life, with focus and hard work.
Getting honest with yourself is the first step to success at home. If you know that you want a big change but doing things cold turkey or suddenly will be a struggle, then work your way up to them instead. Write out your daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals and break things down in manageable increments that are honest about your shortcomings and weaknesses.

Start your day earlier
Okay, this one gets a lot of grumbles and complaints but it really makes a huge difference if you have children underfoot. Making a point of starting your day earlier is one of the best steps to success in your home. If you rise before your children, you can start the day out with time to yourself, a break to relax with a coffee, and the ability to tackle a few chores without interruptions.

Create a family calendar
One of the most life-changing things I implemented into my routine was to create a family calendar. There are tons of ways to manage this with paper, calendars, apps, and spreadsheets. Regardless of what you choose to use, a calendar that includes everyone’s activities in one place makes a huge difference.

Start utilizing a meal plan
One of the biggest time wasters in our home is time spent making meals in the kitchen. If you are a stay at home mom, this gets even harder as you are likely preparing 2-3 meals a day. That can easily suck 2-3 hours of your day in preparation, tending food, and then cleaning up afterward. A meal plan is a huge time saver.
We use these Crockpot Meals to create a meal plan we can stick with on busier days. There are also tons of options for cooking and freezing food ahead of time, investing in an Instant Pot, or just planning to use your kids to help with preparation throughout the week. Whatever your method, meal planning is a must.
Find the humor in life
Life doesn’t follow our rulebooks. No matter how early we get up and how well we plan, kids still get sick, cars break down, bills go up, and life just happens. If you really want to find success in your home this year, then you have to find a sense of humor. Whether it is having a good attitude when a change occurs or tuning in for a funny video on social media, you have to bring along your sense of humor in life.
